‘Your true friend for life,’ SIC Life has partnered the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) for a comprehensive Group Life Insurance Policy for members of the Union.
The official launch and signing of the partnership took place on Wednesday 5th May, 2021 at the MUSIGA secretariat in Accra.
Speaking at the event, Head of Group Business; SIC Life, Mr. David Ankrah highlighted the important role musicians play in society, hence Management’s initiative to provide a Group Life insurance cover which will complement the already existing welfare package for members.
‘We recognize that musicians play a very important role in this country. When we are sad, we listen to music; when we are happy, we listen to music and so music is everything... it was somebody’s doing that brought up that rhythm and tune that we listen to. If we are happy when we listen to music, then we must also recognize the people who are behind the tunes that we hear. For us, we are happy to join hands with you to give you this welfare package,’ Mr. Ankrah noted.
He further outlined the benefits members stand to get by paying an annual premium of GH₵50.00.
‘We are giving you a life cover of GH5,000 in the event of death, we are giving you a permanent disability cover; that is when you are injured such that you are not able to do what you do best, critical illness, hospitalization and spousal benefit,’ he added.
On his part, the Acting President of MUSIGA; Bessa Simons affirmed his belief in the policy although not compulsory, will relief members in times of uncertainties. He also thanked SIC Life Management for opening its doors to the Musicians.
‘For a long time, MUSIGA has been aiming insurance that supports the welfare of members so I was so glad when we got a call from SIC Life. Let me thank Management of SIC Life for agreeing to partner us in this innovative venture. This afternoon, we are engaging in something significant and historic. 250 members of MUSIGA have signed on to the Insurance scheme which will provide great benefits in times of need. We believe that our numbers will grow and more members will sign on. When we started this scheme, a lot of people did not believe in it. We had to travel to the Central region, Volta Region and all the regions to sensitise members on the policy,’ Bessa Simons stated.
He also named some renowned members of the union including Kofi Kinaata, Celestine Donkor, Bohyeba, Okyerema Kontor and others who have enrolled on the policy.
As part of the launch, MUSIGA presented an undisclosed cheque amount to SIC Life for 250 members who have already made payment of their annual premium to ensure the roll out the policy.
